Who Should Attend

Any person wishing to gain the skills required to obtain a High Risk Work Licence to operate forklift.

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide the participant with adequate knowledge to successfully complete the assessments required prior to application for a high risk work licence to operate a forklift.

Course Outline

On completion of this course, participants will know:

  • Workplace Health & Safety Regulations and requirements
  • Underpinning knowledge & skills requirement (load shifting and calculations)
  • Equipment safety and specific theory
  • Practical operation of the machinery – operator checks and services, lifting techniques, communication

Pre Requisite

Participants must be 18 years old to undergo the assessment process.  Training and log book hours can be undertaken prior to turning 18.  Please contact our office to discuss your options.

Participants who have previous experience in Forklift operations are welcome to supply evidence to an ASTA HRW Assessor for review and approval.

Mandatory / Client Requirements

Participants are required to attend training with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the workplace including safety footwear and their workplace protective clothing suitable for conducting forklift operations.

All participants are to engage in assessment activities to satisfactorily complete the course.

Entry Requirements

Participants will be required to successfully complete an LLN assessment to confirm numeracy, reading, writing and language skills at least to ACSF Level 2, prior to enrolment into their selected course.

It is a requirement that participants wishing to attend this training be able to:

  • enter and exit the forklift safely and unaided
  • have adequate mobility, eyesight and hearing to be able to observe their surrounding work area in all directions during activities
  • not have any known medical conditions that may affect your or other persons' safety

Delivery

The course will be delivered in a face to face format in either ASTA training rooms or at your workplace, depending on numbers and client requirements.

Training 

During the first day of Formal Course Work (classroom) participants have access to support materials for forklifts, power point presentations and safety videos. Handouts relevant to forklift operations will also be provided. Each participant will be required to successfully complete an in-class self assessment.

Once the logbook hours and/or evident are verified by the trainer/assessor, participants will undertake day 2 of their training. During the second day of training, participanrs are to undertake a short refresher session of the previous day 1 materials, and complete theory & practical assessments.

ASTA is responsible for delivering quality training and assessment compliant with National Standard and WHS requirements.

Log Book

All participants will be issued with a logbook which includes a training plan and a full explanation of the requirements for both the participant and the employer/supervisor. The participants is required to log on the job hours to show current competency. This is to be supervised and signed off by a current Forklift High Risk Work Licence holder. The required hours are decided on skill, experience and evidence supplied.

Participants who have previous experience in Forklift operations are welcome to supply evident to the HRWL Assessor for review.

Assessments

Participants must be 18 years old to undergo the assessment process. Training and logbook hours can be undertaken prior to turning 18. Please contact our office to discuss your options.

A separate enrolment is to be completed for the 1-day assessment. Once the participants log book hours and/or evidence are verified by the trainer, the participant will undertake a written theory assessment and a practical assessment. This can take place at ASTA or conducted onsite. The assessment consists of mutiple choice, true or false and short answer questions. Please be advised that more than 3 working days notice must be given to WHSQ to conduct any assessment process.

Outcome

Participants who demonstrate competency by successfully completing the theory and practical assessments are entitled to receive a Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck.

Participants will also receive a completed Assessment Summary (AS1) provided by the Assessor for HRWL, and are eligible for the High Risk Licence subject to completion of the appropriate application and payment of fees. ASTA may provide information on how to apply for their HRWL. This licence is renewable every 5 years.
