HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support & HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid
Who Should Attend
Participants will be those that wish to provide assistance with injury related incidents in the workplace or to family, in a first response capacity.
Aim
The aim of this course is to ensure that all workplaces provide appropriate training to selected personnel and be assessed as competent to perform those activities when required as per State Legislation.
Course Outline
- Respond to signs of an unconscious casualty
- Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Communicate details of the incident
- Respond in an emergency situation
- Apply identified first aid procedures
- Communicate details of the incident and request ambulance/medical support and/or assistance
- Assess the situation – asses and minimise hazards, minimise risk to self and casualty health, assess casualty and identify injuries, illnesses and conditions
- Apply first aid procedures
- Communicate details of the incident
- Evaluate own performance

Entry Requirements
- enter and exit work location safely and unaided
- have adequate mobility to be able to provide CPR and other first aid measures to a patient located on the floor or ground surface
- have adequate mobility, eyesight and hearing to be able to observe their surroundung work area in all directions during activities
Training
Participants will receive a set of course notes which includes treatment of various injuries and illnesses that may occur. Practical activities are included to ensure participants have the ability to perform various first aid tasks should the need arise.
During the day (classroom) participants will have access to support materials for first aid applications, Power Point presentations and information. Each client will be required to successfully completed an in-class assessment.
ASTA is responsible for delivering quality training and assessment compliant with National Standards and WHS requirements.
Mandatory Requirements
Participants are to attend training with closed in footwear and neatly attired. All clients are to engage in assessment activities to satisfactorily complete the course.
Assessment
Participants will undertake a theory assessment and practical assessments of their ability to understand and provide first aid treatment. The theory assessment consists of mutiple choice, true or false and short answer questions. Practical assessments will be scenario based and oral questioning and observation of the client will be conducted throughout this process to ensure competency.
Outcome
Participants who demonstrate competency by successfully completing theory assessment and practical demonstrations will receive a Statement of Attainment for;
HLTAID009 Provide CPR
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
Delivery
The course will be delivered via a face to face format in either ASTA training rooms or at your workplace depending on numbers, client requirements and training facilities.
