Hydraulic Excavator Operations

Who Should Attend
Any person wishing to gain the skills required to obtain a Statement of Attainment to operate an Excavator.

Aim
The aim of this course is to provide the participant with adequate knowledge and to ensure appropriate levels of skills to successfully complete the assessments required to attain a Statement of Attainment to operate an Excavator.

Course Outline
On completion of this course, participants will know:
• Work Health & Safety requirements
• Underpinning knowledge & skills requirement (load shifting and calculations)
• Equipment safety and specific theory including principles, procedures, mechanical procedures, terminology, Australian Standards, workplace policies and procedures, communication signals etc.
• Practical operation of the machinery – operator checks and services, lifting techniques, communication.

Training Materials
The participant is supplied comprehensive course notes covering WHS Legislation and guidance materials on the operations, maintenance and use of Excavators. During the period of formal course work, the participants will also be provided with power point presentations and safety videos.

Assessment
On completion of the formal theory coursework, the participant will undertake a written theory assessment, and then the participant will undertake a practical assessment. If the participant does not meet the requirement of the practical assessment a log book will be issued with a nominal amount of hours. They will be required to return to their place of employment and log the required hours. On completion, a follow up assessment will be conducted. Participants are to supply an Excavator for this assessment. If they cannot supply an Excavator within agreeable distance for the assessor to conduct the practical assessment, an Excavator will be hired at the participants cost.

Outcome
On successful completion of the theory and practical assessments, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIMPO301D Conduct hydraulic excavator operations.

Verification of Competency is also available for this item of plant.

Delivery
The course will be delivered via a face-to-face format in either ASTA training rooms or at your workplace, depending on numbers, client requirements and training facilities.
