Individuals and contractors should confirm induction requirements with the site they will be working on before attending an induction to ensure the process aligns with site procedure and is recognized by the site.

 

Who Should Attend

Clients who require a Standard 11 Surface Induction to be able to work on Queensland Coal Mine Sites.

 

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide the client with adequate knowledge and skills to successfully complete the assessments required gain qualifications for the 6 units of competency for Standard 11 Surface Induction.

 

Course Outline

This is an interactive and scenario-based program delivering the underpinning knowledge for the Standard 11 program including;

  • An Introduction to Mining
  • Thinking about Safety
  • Hazard Identification
  • Risk Management
  • Isolation
  • Communication Principles and Application
  • Personal & Team Risk Management
  • Site Risk Management
  • Incident Response
  • Introduction to Fire Preventions and Response
  • First Aid

 

Pre-requisites

Clients must be 18 years old to undergo the assessment process. Training and logbook hours can be undertaken prior to turning 18. Please contact our office to discuss your options.

 

Mandatory / Client Requirements

Clients are required to attend training with enclosed footwear and workplace clothing suitable for a classroom environment. All clients are to engage in all assessment activities to satisfactorily complete the course.

 

Entry Requirements

Clients will be required to successfully complete an LLN assessment to confirm numeracy, reading writing and language skills at least to ACSF Level 2, prior to enrolment into their selected course.

It is a requirement that clients wishing to attend this training be able to:

  • enter and exit the work location safety and unaided
  • have adequate mobility, eyesight and hearing to be able to observe their surrounding work area in all directions during activities.
  • have adequate mobility to provide assistance to others who may be located on the ground or in awkward locations or positions.

Delivery

The classroom component of the training course will be delivered via a face-to-face format in either ASTA training rooms or at your workplace, depending on numbers and client or workplace requirements.

The Site Verification Workbook is to be completed on site by the client’s supervisor / manager, who is to monitor and record client performance in this area for return to ASTA

 

Training

Clients will be provided with training support material for Standard 11 Surface Induction, including the use of PowerPoint presentations and safety videos. Handouts relevant to Standard 11 Surface Induction operations may also be provided. Each client will be required to successfully complete in class assessments.

ASTA is responsible for delivering quality training and assessment compliant with National Standards and WHS requirements

 

Logbook

A Site Verification Workbook is issued to each person on completion of the second day of training. On return (within 6 months of training date) of the completed Site Verification Booklet, and approval of the supplied documentation by the ASTA Trainer / Assessor, clients are entitled to receive a Standard 11 Surface Induction.

 

Assessment

Clients will undertake theory and practical assessments. The theory assessment consists of multiple choice, true and false and short answer questions. Practical activities are also to be conducted in the classroom and are to be successfully completed by the client.

All clients will be issued with a Site Verification Workbook which includes an explanation of the requirements for both the client and the employer/supervisor. The client is required to record on the job activities and provide evidence to show current competency. This is to be supervised and signed off by their current supervisor or manager and returned within 6 months of the training date.

If a client is unable to meet this timeframe, they will be required to complete a refresher training program and given a further 6 months to complete.  Access to a Coal Site and completion of a Site-Specific Induction is required to finalise this workbook.

 

Outcome

Clients who demonstrate competency by successfully completing classroom written assessments and practical assessments is entitled to receive a Certificate of Attendance and partial completion Digi-card.

On return and successful completion and verification of the Site Verification workbook, the client is entitled to receive a Statement of Attainment for the Units of Competency;

  • RIIGOV201E - Comply with site work process/procedures;
